Painting an ICU – Hektoen International

“This was the art of medicine. The clinical examinations were my brushes, investigations were my paints, and the history became my scene, environment and lighting. I became an impressionist.”

Claude Monet’s development of impressionism formed my inspiration for this piece about how I developed clinical judgement and learnt to recapture humanity in medicine, but I wasn’t the only one what was developing.

I’m grateful for an honourable mention for this piece entitled “Painting an ICU” in Hektoen International’s Grand Prix Essay Competition 2021. Read it here: https://hekint.org/2021/08/19/painting-an-icu/
